How To Make Irish Sea Moss Gel Notes

If this is your first time making Irish Sea Moss Gel, I recommend to start off small.

Many people tend to make the mistake of using too much of the dried sea moss and end up making too much gel.

They have no idea what to do with it, so they end up throwing it away.

So start off small and know that you can always make more if you need to đŸ™‚

What You Will Need:

Everything you need to make your sea moss gel.
  • 1 Cup Irish Sea Moss
  • Spring Water
  • Bowl
  • Strainer
  • Lime (optional)
  • Cinnamon sticks (optional)
  • Glass Jar with a lid

If you haven’t purchased your sea moss yet or you’re having a hard time finding some, you can always buy some online.

Check them out below:

Step One: Rinse The Salt Away

  • Rinse sea moss under running water. It’s best if the water is filtered.
  • Scrub and rub sea moss to get salt and sand off.

NOTE: This process can be skipped, but I like to rinse my sea moss before I soak it.

Step Two: Soak To Soften

After soaking, sea moss will look clear and it will be soft
  • Put sea moss in a large bowl and cover with spring water.
  • This is optional, but adding lime and cinnamon to soak with sea moss will help with the smell.
  • Soak sea moss for a minimum of 4 hours. The longer it soaks, the easier it is to blend
  • Make sure to check on the sea moss to see if it has expanded “out of the water”.
  • After soaking for a minimum of 4 hours, remove sea moss from the bowl.
  • If you plan to keep the water the sea moss soaked in, pour the liquid into a glass jar with a lid, and put it in the refrigerator.

Blend It

  • Add sea moss and spring water to a blender
  • Blend well until sea moss becomes smooth. If it appears to be too chunky, add more water.

Turn Into A Gel

  • Add sea moss to a glass jar with a lid and place it in the refrigerator to allow it to turn into a gel.
  • When you are able to hold the jar upside down and nothing falls out, you have successfully made a good batch of Irish sea moss gel. Congrats!

How Long Does Sea Moss Last After Making It?

  • You can store sea moss for about 3 weeks in the refrigerator. If you keep it longer than 3 weeks, make sure to smell it to make sure that it has not gone bad. If you find yourself not being able to finish all of it within 3 weeks, try to reduce how much dried sea moss you use when you prepare your next batch.

What’s Next?

Once you have made your Irish sea moss gel, you can use it in a smoothie or use it as a face mask. I used sea moss on my face for 5 days and I could really see a change in my skin!

There are so many wonderful benefits to adding sea moss to your diet!
