Eucalyptus in the shower

Hanging Eucalyptus in your Shower has many benefits. Not only is it super pretty and spa-like, but it also has a lot of health benefits too.

If you are into meditating, manifesting, and achieving mental clarity like me, then this is something you have to try!

What Is Eucalyptus

To begin, eucalyptus is an evergreen tree that’s native to Australia but grows in many parts of the world. It’s frequently used to relieve cold symptoms and in aromatherapy practices.

The eucalyptus, also known as the silver dollar tree, comes in many different varieties and scents. So, if you’re not a fan of one scent, you can choose another one to hang in your shower.

The Benefits Of Eucalyptus

  • Relieve stuffy nose and sinus headache. Taking a hot shower releases the oils from the eucalyptus and helps to loosen mucus and relieve congestion.
  • Reduce Stress. If you are feeling anxious, the aroma of eucalyptus oils can ease you. Science says it decreases the activity of your sympathetic nervous system, your stress response system, and promotes relaxation.
  • Reduce Pain. Inhaling the scent of eucalyptus oil can reduce the sensation of pain and lower blood pressure.
  • Ease Respiratory Issues. Issues like bronchitis and asthma can be relieved by inhaling the scent of the eucalyptus.
  • More alert. If you need a quick pick me up, taking a shower with eucalyptus leaves can help wake you up. The essential oils dilating your airways help increase the oxygenated blood to your organs and brain.
  • Mental health. Having plants in your home is good for your mental health and scientifically been proven to make you feel better and calmer. If you are into water manifestation, having the eucalyptus in your shower is a great addition.

Where To Find Eucalyptus Branches?

Amazon and Etsy are the best online platforms to find eucalyptus. Make sure to read the description to make sure you are getting fresh or dried leaves.

Do not make the mistake of buying artificial/fake leaves.

Your local flower shop or Trader Joe’s should also carry fresh or dried eucalyptus.

I bought my 4 bundles from Trader Joe’s for about $12. Each bundle was around $3.

Prepping The Leaves

If you want a stronger smell from the eucalyptus, take the time to prepare your leaves before hanging them up in the shower.

Use something like a wine bottle or rubber hammer to roll or bruise the eucalyptus leaves. This will help with releasing the oils and provide you with a stronger scent.

This is a common practice of mine when I make herbal teas. I cut and bruise the leaves before pouring hot water over them. This gives me a stronger tea than if I would’ve just put the leaves in without prepping them.

How To Hang Eucalyptus In Your Shower

What you will need

  • A bundle of eucalyptus leaves (3 to 12 small branches)
  • Rubber band, twine, or string
  • Scissors

Steps

Gather the branches with the cut ends down.

This is optional, but you can choose to remove the leaves from the bottom of each branch. This will give you a clean look when you tie them together.

If you are using twine or string to tie your branches together, cut about 24 inches off. The longer the better.

Wrap the string tightly around the stems and tie a knot. If you are using the string to hang it on the shower head, make sure to leave some string untied.

Leave some of the string untied so you can attach it to your shower or curtain rod.

If you are using a rubber band, wrap the rubber band around the stems as if you were putting hair into a ponytail.

Separate the bundle evenly and put it over your shower head.

In my opinion, this is the easiest way to hang eucalyptus in your shower. Plus, many eucalyptus bundles come with a rubber band on them already!

You can also put your eucalyptus bundle in a small vase and set it inside your shower. This is also a good way to prolong your leaves because you can add water to your vase which will keep it fresher longer.

I put my vase on the side of my shower on a little shelf.

Just be careful and not knock it over when showering.

Place eucalyptus in a vase instead of hanging it in your shower..

Remember to position the eucalyptus bundle so that it is not directly under the water stream.

How long will it last?

Pay attention to how the eucalyptus looks and smells.

When it starts to look straggly, turn colors, or smell weird, then you should replace it.

Some people recommend switching it out within 2 weeks, while others leave it for over 2 months.

My suggestion would be to replace it when you can no longer smell the scent of the eucalyptus.

However, even when the scent has disappeared, you can still leave it up for decoration. It looks so pretty!

Things to remember

  • Do not hang your eucalyptus bundles in the direct stream of the water. The oil from the leaves can irritate your eyes and skin.
  • Eucalyptus is toxic to animals! Make sure that your pets, like dogs and cats, do not come in contact with it.

Eucalyptus Shower Ritual

I love creating rituals to make my day go better and to raise my vibrations.

So, here is a mini shower ritual for you to do at the end of the day with your new eucalyptus shower bundle.

  • Light your favorite candle in your room.
  • Turn off the lights.
  • Turn on some relaxing or meditation music.
  • Undress and stand outside your shower.
  • Take 3 deep breaths in and out. Allow yourself to forget the stress of the day.
  • Once you are inside the shower allow the water to run down and just stand there and enjoy yourself for about two minutes.
  • Slowly breathe in the steam of the shower for about five minutes and allow yourself to relax and not have any cares in the world.
  • Say a little chant, gratitude for the day, or set an intention.
  • Allow yourself to be in the moment.

The Takeaway

Hanging eucalyptus in your shower is the perfect way to add Zen and Feng Shui to your bathroom. Also the added health benefits you will receive by inhaling the minty sweet aroma, is another reason you should try it this year.

I’m always looking for different ways to up my vibes and make me feel good. Little things like adding eucalyptus to my shower are some of the things I am doing to create positive vibes in my home.
